Amir Pakravan

Dr Pakravan is a Consultant in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine, Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (CSEM), William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary, University of London, and a Visiting Senior Fellow in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the School of Allied Health and Sciences, University of Suffolk.
Dr Pakravan is the Chief Medical Officer to Super League Basketball, the British professional Basketball league, and consulting club doctor to London Lions Basketball Club, British Champions with whom he won the EuroCup in 2023-24 season, the first European silverware ever won by a British Basketball team.
He is a Board Member and Vice Chair of the European College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP) and represents ECOSEP in the World Health Organisation’s European network for Health Enhancing Physical Activity (WHO-HEPA Europe).
He worked more than 17 years in professional football including as past consulting club doctor to Crystal Palace Football Club in English Premier League for 11 years, and Itinerant Doctor to the Football Association (FA) for England teams.
Dr Pakravan has also served as GB team doctor for Basketball and Hockey, and his vast experience of work in elite and professional sports includes Field of Play Medical Team Leader during the London Olympic and Paralympic games, Medical Director to major international sporting events including World Taekwondo Grand Prix and World Para-Taekwondo Championship, Hockey World League Semi-finals, and Hockey Super-6s finals, Medical Officer for NBA London and Paris Games, Medical Officer for London Marathons and Triathlons, and Paralympic Classifier in Athletics.
Dr Pakravan is a published author and is actively involved with research and education as an International Speaker on various Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine topics. These include delivering talks at iconic venues such as Camp Nou (FC Barcelona), Parc des Princes (Paris Saint-Germain FC) and Cívitas Metropolitano Stadium (Atletico de Madrid FC).
He has featured as an expert guest on BBC Radio 4, Dr Michael Mosley’s flagship “Just One Thing” programme.
His ethos in his general musculoskeletal practice is to offer patients a tailormade personalised management plan to ensure not only accurate diagnosis and optimum pain management but also long-term functional benefits. He offers diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning, and various types of ultrasound guided injections and shockwave therapy as required. He is one of very few practitioners to also offer cutting-edge UTC scan of Achilles and Patellar tendons. Dr Pakravan believes in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and works closely with surgeons, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, podiatrists and other specialties as needed.
